The Blind Mystic Who Made Eerie Predictions About the World

A woman from a Bulgarian village made many predictions about world events and the eventual state of the world in her lifetime. Some of her followers claim that she was a blind mystic with supernatural powers.

Others claim that she was a fraud whose legend has been perpetuated by the internet. Still, it quite eerie the predictions that she made and the accuracy with which she made them.

A Rough Beginning

Vangeliya Pandeva Gushterova was born prematurely in 1911 in present-day Macedonia to a poor family. She grew up without her mother, after she died when she was young.

She even had to see her father shipped off to war. Through her tough childhood, she endured, but more hardships were yet to come. Through the hardships though, she would achieve international recognition.

The Perfect Storm

At the age of 12, Vanga was playing with her cousins when a tornado struck her village. Vanga was flung into the air and landed in a nearby field.

When her family finally found her, the young girl had so much dirt and dust in her eyes that they were crusted shut. Because of this, the child began to lose her vision. But she would soon seem to develop another.

Strange Dreams and VIsions

Vanga began to have strange dreams as well as visions about the future. She began to hone her skill and as she grew she became known as “Baba Vanga.”

Baba Vanga made a number of visions over the years and a number of them appeared to come true, much to many people’s shock and surprise.

The Prediction That Shot Her to Fame

Out of her home in the Bulgarian Kozuh Mountains, Baba Vanga made many predictions, though she never wrote any down. The prediction that shot her to fame was made in 1980. According to Baba Vanga, she predicted Kursk would be “covered with water and the whole world would weep over it.”

This was seen as an accurate prediction as in 2000, a Kursk submarine accidentally sank during an exercise. All 118 sailors on board were killed.

She Allegedly Predicted 9/11

In 1989 Baba Vanga said “Horror, horror! The American brethren will fall after being attacked by the steel birds. The wolves will be howling in a bush, and innocent blood will be gushing.”

In September of 2001, two planes flew into the World Trade Center in New York City during a terrorist attack orchestrated by Osama Bin Laden. Over 3,000 people were killed.

She May Have Predicted a Tsunami

Apparently, Baba Venga may have predicted the 2004 tsunami that struck Thailand, killing 227,898 people and devastating the coast.

Baba Venga apparently said “A huge wave will cover a big coast covered with people and towns, and everything will disappear beneath the water. Everything will melt, just like ice.”

A Number of “True” Claims

Before she died, Baba Venga predicted that America’s 44th president would be Black. Indeed, America’s first Black president was elected into office as the first Black president in 2008.

She also predicted a “Muslim war” which many have taken to have alluded to the terrorist group ISIS, and the dissolving of the Soviet Union.

Baba Venga’s Predictions About the Future

In 1979, Baba Venga said “All will thaw, as if ice, only one remains untouched- Vladimir’s glory, glory of Russia.” Babe Venga also alluded to World War Three.

“Russia will not only survive, it will dominate the world.” That is quite the claim that many nations and international citizens may take issue with.

Not All Her Predictions Have Been Correct

Baba Venga’s predictions have not all been correct. Although she was right about America’s first Black president, she also claimed that he would be the country’s last. She also claimed that Europe would cease to exist by the year 2017, though Britain did vote to leave the European Union in 2016.

She also predicted a nuclear war that would last 2010 to 2014, which thankfully was incorrect, as well as the 1994 World Cup having two countries that start with “B” (it ended up being between Brazil and Italy).

Her Predictions Go Until Year 5079

Baba Venga’s predictions go all the way to the year 5079, which is when she claims the world will end. Her predictions become increasingly bizarre as the world progresses. She claims, among many other things, that between 2170 to 2256 a Mars colony will gain earthly nuclear weapons and demand independence from earth.

She says we will have time travel by 2304 and Earth will be uninhabitable by 2341. Sadly, according to Baba Venga, by 4674, humanity will have been completely wiped out.

Not Everyone Believes in Her Mysticism

Many people are skeptical of the blind mystic as there is no real evidence of any prophecies being real, despite many claiming that 85% of her predictions have come true.

Worse for believers, the U.K.’s Daily Express claimed that many of the supposed predictions by Baba Venga were created by Russian trolls. She died in 1996 at 85.
